From the web site: "I grew up on a farm in Washington state. That’s where I learned about growing fruit. I loved it, but Dad told me there was no money in farming and that I should consider becoming a chemical engineer. So I did. And then I started an oil company and traveled the globe. The world’s greatest restaurants and wineries became my classroom for learning about the most interesting and alluring fruit of all – the wine grape. The more I learned the more certain I became that I needed my own vineyards. And so the search began. I visited all the greatest wine growing regions, here and abroad, and could have bought land anywhere. But it was this mountainside in Sonoma that captured my heart. It’s here, in these vineyards that I can engage in the process, gain knowledge and pursue perfection. For me, learning what it takes to make great wine, is the path to true wisdom." – Brion Wise

Special Feature: BWise vineyards are high in the Mayacamas Mountains, in the soon-to-be-designated "Moon Mountain" appellation. Up there is a very special wine cave, with a number of rooms with carpet and furniture. By appointment only it is possible to book a tour and tasting there, but be prepared to spend an hour and a half at the location and probably half an hour each way to get there and back. There is also a charge (presently $35/person) for this very special outing.

Personal comments: This charming little tasting room in the heart of Kenwood on Hwy 12 (see photos) is a great spot to taste some truly awesome red wines. Those who drink only whites should go somewhere else, since here a Rose is as white as you will find. However, red wine drinkers are in for a treat. BWise sources Cabernet grapes from both Sonoma and Napa counties, and their estate Syrah is simply not to be missed. Enjoy! - Roy Tennant
