Tasting: 10am to 5pm daily - Fee: $10 to taste 7 wines, fee waived for club membersFrom the web site: "Sebastiani Vineyards is located just two blocks east of the Sonoma Plaza, at 389 Fourth Street East. The original winery was a series of stone buildings erected around the turn of the 20th century. Those buildings, which are all still standing and in use as part of the winery have just undergone a careful, historic restoration. As part of the county-mandated seismic retrofit, we meticulously preserved all of our priceless items and heirlooms including our famous carved casks. We have unveiled the beautiful, century-old stone walls that we had mistakenly disguised for many years. The history of Sonoma County is the history of the State of California and the wine industry in California and personalities and legends all rolled into one. The flags of seven countries have flown over the county and proudly here at Sebastiani Vineyards and Winery; Spain, England, Imperial Russia, Mexico, the Bear Flag and the United States." Personal comments:
This tasting room is a destination -- the carved wine barrels are not to be missed and the store is large and has many unique items. Free tours and some of the best picnicking in the valley (ask for directions to the tables next to the vineyard) make it a great place to experience Sonoma at its best. Also, they are now (as of July 10 2009) doing special events and live music Friday evenings, 7:00-9:00. Sounds like a great time! - Roy Tennant
